Well London - This 5-year, £9.46 million programme, funded by the BLF, will work with local people to transform health in twenty of London’s most disadvantaged neighbourhoods. The Well London programme will invest in local community-led projects:
- Promoting mental health and well-being
- Improving healthy eating choices
- Promoting access to open spaces and increasing physical activity
Well London has been developed by a unique alliance of seven partners that bring strategic influence and local community-led experience:
The programme will encourage new ways of working to improve health and well-being through culture and tradition. We have developed a unique monitoring and evaluation framework to ensure we capture what works.
Communities will decide for themselves how the Well London programme money is to be spent, assessing their own needs and priorities. We will support local groups and people and join-up current initiatives, developing skills, confidence, programmes and networks to leave a lasting health legacy. This is the first time that this type of approach will have been tried on a regional scale.

Sustainable and Accessible Urban Landscapes (SAUL) - This four-year, €22 million programme has worked with partners in London, Germany, the Netherlands and Luxembourg. Part-funded by the EU Interreg programme, whose aims are to strengthen economic and social cohesion across Europe by promoting transnational co-operation, the four-year project has culminated in a set of ‘Messages for Europe’, and specific recommendations for Europe’s politicians and practitioners working in the spatial planning and regeneration sectors.
- Groundwork London continues to monitor, assess and contribute to key policy developments and priorities by working with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and partners on delivery of aspects of the London Plan. We successfully developed and delivered a pan-London project to test the Mayor's Sustainable Suburbs Toolkit through pilot projects in all seven London Trusts.
- Groundwork London has organised a topical seminar for London with the GLA and London Parks and Green Spaces Forum (LPGSF) on alternative models for parks management. We have contributed to the development of green space policies and good practice as part of the Steering Group for the GLA-led Strategic Parks Project planning future regional and metropolitan parks, and through national research and debate on aspects of green space policy involving CABE Space and other key agencies.
- Groundwork London continues to develop strategic links with the London Development Agency (LDA) and Association of Town Centre Management (ATCM) in promoting the potential of Business Improvement Districts (BIDs) in which the private sector is a key partner, including BIDs for industrial estates, and we also joined a Home Office working group on industrial estates and community safety.
- We work with a range of London initiatives and partnerships, including Design for Biodiversity, LPGSF and London Sustainability Exchange (LSx). We are building new partnerships with both the health sector and the social housing sector at strategic as well as local levels.
